Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how karismeier.com (“we,” “our,” or “the site”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you visit the site. This site is operated by Karis Meier, author of Suffering Redeemed.

Who we are

Our website address is https://karismeier.com. The site is hosted on WordPress.com, operated by Automattic Inc. Automattic’s privacy policy also applies to data they handle on our behalf; you can read it at automattic.com/privacy.

What information we collect

Contact form

If you use our contact form to send a message, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message. This information is sent directly to Karis’s personal inbox and is used only to respond to your inquiry. We do not share it, publish it, or add it to a marketing list.

Comments

If you leave a comment on a blog post, we collect the data shown in the comment form, along with your IP address and browser user-agent string. This helps us detect spam. An anonymized string derived from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a public profile photo. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy. After your comment is approved, your profile picture (if any) is visible to the public alongside your comment.

Newsletter subscriptions

If you subscribe to our newsletter, your email address is collected by our third-party newsletter service (currently being set up; likely Kit, formerly ConvertKit). Subscription data is used only to send you newsletter content and is never sold or shared. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every newsletter email.

Analytics

We use Jetpack Stats (a service provided by Automattic) to understand how visitors use the site. This includes pages viewed, referral source, approximate location (based on IP), and browser type. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally. You can read Automattic’s stats policy at automattic.com/privacy.

Cookies

This site uses cookies for basic site functionality (such as remembering that you’ve filled in the comment form on prior visits) and for the analytics described above. These cookies typically expire within a year. You can set your browser to refuse cookies; doing so may affect how the site functions.

Embedded content from other websites

Some pages on this site include embedded content from YouTube (for podcast clips), Amazon (for links to the book), and other third parties. Embedded content from other sites behaves exactly as if you had visited those sites directly. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking it if you have an account and are logged in to their service. We do not control these third-party practices.

Specifically:

YouTube embeds on the Podcast page follow Google’s privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.

Amazon links on the Books page follow Amazon’s privacy policy: amazon.com/privacy.

How we use and share your information

We use your information only for the purpose for which you provided it — replying to your message, sending you the newsletter, or letting you comment on a post. We do not sell your information. We do not share your information with advertisers. We may share information in the following limited cases:

• With service providers who help us operate the site (WordPress.com / Automattic, our newsletter provider, and Akismet for spam filtering);

• When required by law (for example, in response to a valid legal request);

• To protect the safety of our users or the public.

How long we keep your information

Contact form messages are kept in Karis’s personal inbox as long as needed to correspond with you, then archived or deleted per ordinary email practice. Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognized and approved automatically instead of held in moderation. Newsletter subscriptions are retained until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is aggregated and retained per Automattic’s default retention policy.

Your rights

If you have left a comment or sent a contact message, you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or request that we erase it. To do so, contact us using the form on the Contact page. This does not include data we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security reasons.

Children’s privacy

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us so we can delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the most recent revision. Material changes will be noted on the site.
